A Dream Board Lineup for Mario Party Superstars 2

Mario Party Superstars was a throwback to the original Nintendo 64 era of Mario Party. It brought back classic mini-games and boards from the first three Mario Party games. If Nintendo decides to announce Mario Party Superstars 2, it needs to take from the Gamecube era, starting with Mario Party 4 and 5.

Here is my lineup of classic boards to include.

1. Luigi’s Engine Room (Mario Party 1)

Going all the way back to where it all began, Luigi’s Engine Room is a labyrinth of red and blue steam doors that toggle every turn. Paying Toads or hitting Happening Spaces changes which paths are open, making pathfinding a constant brain-teaser. Replaying this board with some quality-of-life adjustments would be a great time.

2. Pirate Land (Mario Party 2)

Set on high-seas docks surrounded by pirate ships, Pirate Land is one of the most balanced classic boards from the N64 era, offering plenty of branching paths and strategic item plays.

3. Chilly Waters (Mario Party 3)

Slippery ice paths, cracking ice sheets in the center of the map, and a giant snowman tossing snowballs across the board, Chilly Waters is a classic. If players crowd the middle ice lake at the same time, the ice breaks and sends everyone splashing into the freezing water. It offers plenty of opportunities for strategic play and is due for a comeback.

4. Toad’s Midway Madness (Mario Party 4)

The GameCube era started strong with Mario Party 4, and Toad’s Midway Madness was a great board to start with. Set inside an amusement park with teacups and roller coasters, the direction of the track changes constantly whenever someone rides the coaster. It forces and frustrates players by making them rethink their route to the Star. Adding a way to pay coins to redirect the teacups would be a improvement that could be made.

5. Shy Guy’s Jungle Jam (Mario Party 4)

Another gem from Mario Party 4, Shy Guy’s Jungle Jam features a giant Shy Guy statue at the top of the map that acts as a fickle deity. Pay tribute to him and he might reward you with a shortcut or hit you with a tidal wave that sweeps you across the board.

6. Undersea Dream (Mario Party 5)

Mario Party 5 brought heavy dream-themed aesthetics, and Undersea Dream is one of my favorites. It’s a board with two sides. Each has a loop and a unique happening space at the top. A modern remake could make it a visually stunning board with impressive water effects.

7. Bowser’s Gnarly Party (Mario Party 4)

Every great Mario Party needs a ruthless final board, and Bowser’s Gnarly Party delivers. Built on pools of burning lava with fire-breathing Bowser heads, players can get shrunk down, trapped by crumbling bridges, or forced into brutal penalty games. It’s the ultimate high-stakes showdown map for competitive groups. Plus, The Final Battle! mini-game would return!

Final Thoughts

Pairing these 7 iconic boards with an updated roster of mini-games from Mario Party history would turn Mario Party Superstars 2 into an instant classic.
