Why Smash 64 and Melee Need to be Added to Nintendo Switch Online

It’s time to bring Super Smash Bros. 64 and Super Smash Bros. Melee to Nintendo Switch Online.

The Nintendo Switch Online service has done a great job at providing access to classic games to old and new fans alike. From the NES to recently the Gamecube (on the Switch 2) most Nintendo franchises have been added to the service. A major gap in that is Super Smash Bros. Super Smash Bros. 64 has been available on the previous virtual consoles of the Wii and Wii U, so its absence is surprising, and Melee has only been playable on the GameCube since 2001. Both of these games, but especially Melee are beloved entries in the series that deserve to be accessible.

A Fan can Dream

The Nintendo Switch’s online multiplayer service has been criticized for lag and stuttering, but imagine as part of the addition to Melee, they also made performance upgrades to their online networking infrastructure. Dropping Smash 64 and Melee with high-quality online matchmaking would be a dream come true.

Final Thoughts

Bringing the two games that started a global competitive phenomenon onto a single, portable, modern ecosystem would be both a gift to the fans and a smart business decision. Let us wave-dash on the go, Nintendo.
