Kingdom Hearts 2 is a masterpiece, and a huge part of its charm lies in its diverse and captivating worlds. From Disney classics to original creations, each world offers a unique experience. After many play-throughs, I’ve compiled my personal top 10 list.
1. Radiant Garden
Radiant Garden, formerly referred to as Hollow Bastion, tops my list. The transformation from a dark fortress to a city being restored is great. Many of the game’s best moments take place here.
2. The World That Never Was
The World That Never Was is the perfect culmination of the game’s narrative. Its haunting atmosphere, the epic battles, and the emotional moments make it a standout. The final confrontation with Xemnas is a highlight of the entire series.
3. Twilight Town
The first world of the game. The town has a cozy feel. Starting the game here, experiencing Roxas’s bittersweet summer vacation, and later returning with Sora creates a strong emotional connection.
4. Timeless River
Timeless River is a brilliant homage to classic Disney animation. The black-and-white aesthetic, and the nostalgic charm of seeing Mickey Mouse and Pete in their earliest form make this world unique
5. Olympus Coliseum
Olympus Coliseum is a staple of the Kingdom Hearts series, and KH2’s version is fantastic. The world is largely expanded from the first game with the underworld being explorable. The boss fights against Cerberus, the Hydra, and Hades are fun, and partnering with Auron from Final Fantasy X is exciting.
6. Space Paranoids
Space Paranoids, based on Tron, is a visually stunning virtual world. The light cycle mini game and the unique enemies create a distinct experience.
7. Port Royal
Port Royal is based on Pirates of the Caribbean. Sora, Donald, and Goofy team up with Jack Sparrow. They sailing the open seas and fight undead pirates and heartless. The attention to detail in recreating the movie’s atmosphere is commendable.
8. Beast’s Castle
Beast’s Castle is a world filled with emotion and depth. The story of Beast’s transformation and the atmosphere make it a memorable experience. Each visit has a memorable boss fight.
9. Agrabah
Agrabah in KH2 builds upon its appearance from the first game, offering new areas and challenges. The return of Aladdin and company, along with the engaging storyline, makes this world a classic.
10. The 100 Acre Wood
The 100 Acre Wood provides a peaceful and heartwarming break from the main adventure. Its charming mini-games, and the presence of Winnie the Pooh and his friends make it a delightful time.
