Each Smash Brothers game defines a Nintendo console, and Super Smash Bros Brawl was no exception for the Wii. It had the compelling adventure mode: The Subspace Emissary and introduced many new things to the series. Of course the most notable being the characters. It introduced 16 incredible fighters to the roster, and while it was difficult, I narrowed them down to my top 10 favorites.
10. Pit

The angel of Skyworld was an exciting addition, resurrecting the Kid Icarus franchise! I had never have heard of the series before, so Smash was a great introduction of Pit to me. Pit of course had great recovery with his wings and up-special, which is a trait I like in a Smash fighter.
9. Lucario

Lucario was and still is one of the most popular Pokémon and for good reason. I like its design and play style. Charging up aura spheres and catching opponents off guard with them was fun, and the unique aura mechanic where Lucario got stronger with more damage taken was interesting.
8. Meta Knight

Meta Knight is just so cool! From his design to his play style, I’ve always appreciated him. He had great recovery and air combat with his wings, and his quick sword slashes allowed for devastating combos.
7. Wario

Wario definitely deserved a spot on the roster. Wario is a wacky character with a lot of fun moves. He can chomp enemies, pull out a motorcycle and start riding it, and even use the power of farts to devastate his opponents. Also, the way he was introduced in the first trailer was hilarious.
6. King Dedede

As a huge fan of the Kirby series it was a joy to have King Dedede join the brawl. He was also a joy to play. Timing his slow but powerful hammer swings was satisfying, and he had some fun specials.
5. Sonic

Sonic’s addition to Smash was an incredible crossover between two gaming juggernauts (Nintendo and Sega). Sonic’s speed and agility were unmatched. While he took some getting used to, once you got the hang of his speed and specials, he was a blast to play as. His inclusion felt like a historical moment for video games.
4. Snake

Who expected Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake? This was the most jaw-dropping addition to the roster. He has a plethora of weapons in his toolkit to absolutely barrage his enemies with. His down-taunt codec calls were an incredible Easter egg!
3. Lucas

The inclusion of the Mother 3 protagonist was fantastic. While similar to Ness, Lucas had notable differences. He had one of my favorite arcs in adventure mode.
2. Ike

The Fire Emblem representative from Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. I enjoy playing as slow but heavy hitting characters, so Ike is a favorite of mine. Every swing of the massive Ragnell sword had a satisf weight behind it.
1. R.O.B.

My number one pick is the incredible retro robot: R.O.B. He has some good projectiles, and his melee attacks have decent range. I also love his design, but the biggest reason he is my favorite though is his role in The Subspace Emissary.
There you have it! My top 10 characters introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
