My Top 10 Favorite Characters Introduced in Super Smash Bros. Melee

Super Smash Bros. Melee is a game that has stood the test of time, and for good reason. Its fast-paced, technical gameplay and deep character roster have kept a dedicated fanbase alive for over two decades. Today, I want to share my personal top 10 list of characters introduced in Melee. This isn’t a tier list, so don’t expect to see the usual top-tier picks in a strict order. This is a list based purely on my enjoyment.

1. Mr. Game & Watch

Mr. Game & Watch is just plain wacky. His attacks are quirk and his movements are unique. The feeling of landing a judge with a 9, or scooping up a projectile with his bucket for a massive burst of damage, is just so satisfying. He’s a character that embodies the spirit of fun and chaos that I love about Melee.

2. Bowser

The King of the Koopas may be at the bottom of most tier lists, but he’s a joy to play. There’s something cathartic about his powerful, heavy-hitting moves. Landing a fully charged Forward Smash or sending an opponent flying with his Down B feels incredible.

3. Roy

Roy’s a character I have a soft spot for. He’s often overshadowed by Marth, but I like his design more. Plus, his fiery visual effects are just so cool.

4. Young Link

Young Link is the perfect mix of speed and projectiles. He has all of Link’s tools—bombs, boomerangs, and a bow—but in a smaller, faster package. He’s great at controlling the stage and frustrating opponents from a distance.

5. Falco

Falco is just so cool. He has all of Fox’s tools, but in a faster and more stylish package.

6. Marth

Marth is a character I appreciate. His range is great, and the satisfying “tipper” sound and effect are what make his attacks so satisfying. He’s a character that teaches you spacing and patience.

7. Peach

Peach has a unique play style. Her float ability gives her a unique aerial presence and pulling out a stitch face turnip always adds a layer of excitement!

8. Ganondorf

Another heavy hitter villain, Ganondorf’s moves are slow but powerful. As a clone character of Captain Falcon, his Warlock Punch connecting is almost as satisfying as a Falcon Punch. It was great of Melee to introduce some villains to play with.

9. Dr. Mario

Dr. Mario is a heavier hitting version of Mario. He’s heavier, his projectiles are different, and his attacks are a bit more powerful. Like Mario, he’s a fun and easy to use character.

10. Mewtwo

The Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo! Its moveset is unique and engaging. Charging up a shadow ball is a blast and Its tail attacks are surprisingly long-reaching.

This is just my list, and the great thing about Melee is that every character has something to offer. Whether you’re a competitive player or just looking to have some fun with friends, the diverse cast of characters ensures there’s always someone new to try out.
