The Potential of a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Deluxe

Along with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, there has been the release of Switch 2 editions of some of the most popular Switch games. One game I noticed missing a Switch 2 edition was the great Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and that got me thinking. To hold fans over until the next Smash Bros. game, a new edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate should be released for Switch 2. This would be along the same lines as how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was a new edition of the Wii U’s Mario Kart 8 and was made an early Switch title. I know I would be excited for such a development, and so long as the next Smash Bros. game isn’t around the corner would make sense for Nintendo.

What makes it “Deluxe”?

Of course in order to be a “deluxe” edition, there needs to be new content, and what better than new fighters, stages, and items.

10 New Characters!

  1. Waluigi: The people’s champion! His absence from the main roster has been a running gag for years. It’s time, Nintendo. It’s time.
  2. Toy Zelda: While we have Young Link and Toon Link, a playable Toy Zelda inspired by her Echoes of Wisdom appearance. Imaging the diverse moveset that could come from the power of echoes.
  3. Funky Kong: Funky Kong is a force to be reckoned with! His laid-back, surfboard-riding style could translate into a surprisingly agile and powerful heavy character, maybe incorporating his shop items into his moveset.
  4. Bandana Waddle Dee: One of the most important side-characters in the Kirby series, Bandana Dee would bring a blend of spear-wielding combat and adorable charm. He’s earned his spot!
  5. E.M.M.I.: The terrifying E.M.M.I. from Metroid Dread would be a delightful addition! Just like in Metroid Dread it would be a frightening enemy to face.
  6. Meowscarada: The grass and dark type starter from Paldea, Meowscarada’s magician-like aesthetic and nimble movements would be a great fit.
  7. Slippy Toad: Perhaps not the most obvious choice, Slippy has been in the Star Fox series from the beginning. Slippy could be a surprisingly technical fighter, utilizing gadgets and inventions from his engineering background in the Star Fox team.
  8. Noah: From the critically acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Noah, with his blade and Ouroboros transformation, would be another representative from this epic RPG series.
  9. Paper Mario: Paper Mario’s unique 2D-in-a-3D-world aesthetic, combined with his diverse array of partners and abilities from across his RPG series, would make for an incredibly creative and versatile fighter.
  10. Shadow the Hedgehog: Sonic’s dark counterpart has been a long-requested character, and for good reason. Shadow’s Chaos powers, speed, and overall edgy persona would make him a fantastic addition to the roster.
