A Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Reboot Series

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers is a Disney Television Animation classic. Originally released in 1989 for a run of 55 episodes, the series starred the titular Chip and Dale from the Disney shorts. It followed Chip, Dale, and their fellow rescue rangers as they worked as a detective agency to solve crimes. The series is a fan-favorite and while the 2022 Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers was okay, it did not satisfy the desire to see a rebooted 2D animated series.

The 2017 DuckTales reboot set the gold standard for how to modernize Disney’s Afternoon classics. It expanded the lore, deepened the character dynamics, and created a shared universe that introduced high-stakes adventure while keeping the heart of the original alive. The same should be done for the classic Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers show, and it could even be set in the same world. After all, the rangers did make an appearance in one episode.

Imagine a rebooted Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers series that picks up right where DuckTales (2017) left off. Here is what that dream reboot would look like.

The Setup

In a world constantly threatened by Magica De Spell, alien invasions, and billionaire rivalries, the big heroes handle the big threats. But who handles the crimes that happen beneath human or duck notice?

Operating out of an abandoned treehouse in the heart of Duckburg, the Rescue Rangers run a private investigative agency for the city’s smallest citizens. While Scrooge McDuck is busy fighting dragons, Chip and Dale are solving heists, black-market cheese operations, and high-tech sabotage.

The Rescue Rangers

  • Chip: The driven and organized leader. He carries a tiny notebook, speaks in internal monologues, and takes every case with deadly seriousness.
  • Dale: The impulsive strategist. His seemingly ridiculous ideas often solve cases because villains tend to act like comic book bad guys.
  • Gadget Hackwrench: The brains of the operation. Her tech in this series leans heavily into repurposing junk into gadgets.
  • Monterey Jack: The battle-hardened veteran with a past. Monty’s history is tied to global exploration, having crossed paths with Scrooge McDuck in his younger days.
  • Zipper: Zipper is the team’s covert surveillance unit and heavy hitter. Fast, fearless, and capable of taking down enemies ten times his size, he communicates in buzzing tones that the Rangers can understand.

The Villains

Fat Cat

Fat Cat is the undisputed crime lord of Duckburg’s animal underworld. Tailored suit, sophisticated taste, and utter contempt for rodents. Alongside his inept lieutenants – Mepps, Mole, Wart, and Snout, Fat Cat controls the city’s black-market contraband (mainly high-grade imported cheeses and shiny trinkets). He represents the classic, episodic threat the Rangers face on the streets.

Professor Norton Nimnul

Professor Norton Nimnul is a rogue mad scientist specializing in miniaturization technology, weather-alteration devices, and sonic control. He would be another recurring threat that the Rangers go up against.

F.O.W.L.

AKA the Fiendish Organization for World Larceny. The remnants of F.O.W.L. after their defeat at the end of DuckTales continue with sinister plans.

Why This Would be Great

The beauty of placing the Rescue Rangers inside the 2017 DuckTales timeline is the potential for crossover episodes. Combining the sharp wit, serialized storytelling, and deep Disney lore of the 2017 universe with the action-mystery formula of Rescue Rangers is the exact revival fans deserve.
