Kirby and the Forgotten Land is already one of my favorite games. It took Kirby into the third dimension and showed that the Kirby level-design works wonders in 3D. The Star-Crossed World expansion added a twist to the already incredible stages. By introducing crystal-infused hazards, cosmic aesthetics, and new mouthful mode powers for Kirby, it gave veterans of the game a new challenge to conquer.
If you are hunting for hidden Starries or just testing your fully evolved copy abilities, these are my top 10 stages in the expansion.
10. Washed Away at the Cement Summit
Taking the vertical platforming of the original summit and throwing in new crystal paths and new challenges. It is a fun test of different mouthful modes.
9. Meteor Showers Arrival
An alternate version of the first stage, it introduces the concepts of the expansion well. The stage is transformed beautifully and new paths are created with new enemies. It is the perfect introduction to the expansion.
8. Wastes That Count Time
A stage in Originull Wasteland, the desert theme gets a stellar upgrade here. Time-sensitive puzzle switches are guarded by aggressive Crystal variants of the Beast Pack. There’s also a secret HAL Room to be found!
7. Spinning Dream Parade
The alternative version of Spinning Dream Parade, it’s a great upgrade to a level that was already one of my favorites. Wondaria’s parade theme was already iconic, but adding spinning, glowing obstacle tracks elevates it, and Gear Mouth is my favorite new mode and this stage makes great use of it.
6. Lost in Alivel Mall
With the original stage being one of the most iconic, it’s no surprise that its star-crossed version is incredible. The familiar mall corridors are distorted by dimensional rifts and the original stage’s use of multiple paths is once again a highlight.
5. Fallen-Star Beach
Everbay Coast gets a gorgeous twilight makeover. The beach is littered with glowing star fragments, and the water puzzles rely on using the Water-Balloon Mouth mode to clear out cosmic corruption blocking your progression.
4. Frost Street Snow Park
This stage perfectly balances beautiful scenery with brutal level design. It turns the frozen town into a slippery gauntlet of spinning ice traps and tricky vertical platforming that showcases the absolute best of Kirby’s 3D movement.
3. Crossing Wondaria
A brilliant remix that takes the amusement park aesthetic to a new level. The level layout forces you to maximize the unique geometry of the theme park to reveal hidden rooms, including a secret at the Ferris wheel.
2. Moonlight Canyon Labyrinth
An underground cavern is the perfect pairing with the star-crossed crystals. The expansion adds shifting walls and crystal spikes for a thrilling Gear Mouth section.
1. Crystal Beast Pack Volcano Battle
The absolute pinnacle of the expansion. Set against the backdrop of the blazing, crystal-shattered Fallen-Star Volcano, this gauntlet pits you against aggressive, altered versions of the Beast Pack executives back-to-back. The arena hazards evolve mid-fight, demanding mastery of your evolved Copy Abilities and flawless dodging to survive.
