My Top 10 Galaxies in Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is, in my opinion, one of the greatest platformers ever made. It took the brilliant foundation of the first game and packed it with even more creative level design, incredible power-ups, and unforgettable moments.

I’ve compiled my personal top 10 of the 49 unique galaxies that define the magic of this game.

šŸ”Ÿ Sky Station Galaxy

This one serves as a brilliant opening to the game. Sky Station Galaxy has fantastic verticality and some memorable introductory challenges, including a fight against Peewee Piranha. Its classic, bright aesthetic and high-altitude platforming make it a perfect, nostalgic Mario level. It sets the tone for the cosmic adventures ahead!

9ļøāƒ£ Yoshi Star Galaxy

Yoshi Star Galaxy is where Yoshi first appears in the game, so most of it is focused on the joy of riding Yoshi. The colorful scenery and fun of learning how Yoshi controls makes it a memorable galaxy.

8ļøāƒ£ Puzzle Plank Galaxy

This galaxy is a masterclass in using the game’s signature gravity and level design. Puzzle Plank Galaxy truly lives up to its name. The way the platforming pieces rotate, shift, and fall away demands precise movement and quick thinking. It’s a fantastic example of the game’s creativity.

7ļøāƒ£ Beat Block Galaxy

If there’s one galaxy that tests your rhythm and precision, it’s this one. Beat Block Galaxy forces you to move in sync with the pulsing soundtrack as blocks appear and disappear. It is one of the most stressful yet rewarding challenges in the entire game.

6ļøāƒ£ Supermassive Galaxy

Supermassive Galaxy is hilarious and fun because of its central gimmick: all the enemies and objects are gigantic! It’s a follow up to Giant Land from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tiny-Huge Island of Super Mario 64!

5ļøāƒ£ Honeyhop Galaxy

The return of the Bee Mushroom is always a welcome sight! Honeyhop Galaxy focuses on delicate platforming using the Bee Suit’s unique flying and climbing abilities. The challenge of navigating the honeycombs and sticky surfaces make this galaxy stand out.

4ļøāƒ£ Space Storm Galaxy

This galaxy has a powerful, atmospheric feel that truly captures the “space” in Super Mario Galaxy. Space Storm Galaxy features incredible visuals with swirling cosmic gas and debris. The level design often involves navigating treacherous areas with the Cloud Flower, demanding precise and fast-paced platforming.

3ļøāƒ£ Shiverburn Galaxy

The successor of the incredible Freezeflame Galaxy from Galaxy 1, Shiverburn Galaxy delivers a truly memorable and challenging experience. It has everything you can ask for from a galaxy, great visual and level design, a tough comet mission, and a fun boss fight.

2ļøāƒ£ Battle Belt Galaxy

A true arena for combat, Battle Belt Galaxy is as a series of intense, battle encounters. Its first mission is a variety of battle challenges that involves multiple power-ups and combat strategies. Its second is a thrilling boss fight against a fiery Gobblegut.

1ļøāƒ£ Boss Blitz Galaxy

For me nothing beats Boss Blitz Galaxy. You are thrown into a grueling sequence of five returning boss battles from Mario Galaxy 1 without any checkpoints. It demands execution, conservation of health, and mastery of each boss’s patterns, especially during the comet challenge.
