My Top 10 Fighters Introduced in Super Smash Bros. 4!

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (or Smash 4), is probably the least memorable game of the series for me. It wasn’t as groundbreaking as the original or Melee and it didn’t have the incredible adventure mode of Brawl. With that being said, the game is still great, and one of the reasons are the new characters that were introduced. The game had 21 new fighters with 10 new game series being represented.

You know what comes next. My top 10 new fighters from Smash 4!

10. Robin

Many of the characters introduced in Smash 4 have a unique gameplay mechanic, and a great example of that is Robin. Robin’s tomes and sword have durability stat. When a move’s durability runs out, the move becomes unusable. Having to manage that adds some interesting strategy.

9. Rosalina & Luma

As a big fan of Super Mario Galaxy, I was excited to have this character join Smash. Another character with a unique mechanic. Maneuvering Luma for more powerful attacks or act as a shield is fun. They felt like playing two characters at once, and that novelty never wore off.

8. Mega Man

Mega Man brought a fresh, projectile-heavy zoning style. He felt true to his source material, with each of his attacks taken from a different weapon in his series.

7. Cloud

Let’s be honest, Cloud is cool. He has incredible sword range, fast attacks, and the Limit Break mechanic. Cloud is one of the most fun characters to play.

6. Lucina

Marth ranked 6th on my Melee top 10 list, and Lucina ranks at the same spot for Smash 4. Just like Marth, she is fun to play with quick sword strikes.

5. Dark Pit

The edgier echo fighter of Pit was a fun addition to the roster. I enjoyed playing as Pit more in Smash 4 than in Brawl. One of the reasons for that was the new side-special. Dark Pit’s variant of that special is the Electroshock Arm which was more powerful with greater knockback. Landing that attack is incredibly satisfying.

4. Shulk

I’m really feeling it! Xenoblade is a great series, so seeing Shulk make it into Smash was a big deal. Shulk’s blade the Monado and its Monado arts were perfectly adapted into Smash as Shulk unique mechanic. There are five Monado arts to choose from and each would change Shulks stats, giving the player a lot of options when playing as Shulk.

3. Greninja

Greninja’s water-based movement and fast, fluid aerial combos are fun to use. Greninja’s specials are incredibly satisfying to use. Landing a fully charged Water Shuriken projectile, countering with a Substitute, and surprising enemies with a powerful Shadow Sneak all added to the fun.

2. Bowser Jr.

Bowser Jr. is one of my favorite Mario characters, and his move set and play style did not disappoint. He has projectiles with the mechakoopa, powerful melee smash attacks, especially the drill, and landing a surprise up-special clown car explosion is a blast. Also, getting to play as any of the Koopalings as well is a nice touch.

1. Duck Hunt

My favorite character in Smash 4 hands down. Duck Hunt is a likably goofy character. Their moveset is built on setting up traps. Successfully forcing an opponent into a tight spot, only for them to walk into a detonated Can or get shot by the Gunman is super satisfying. They demand an unusual, patient, and tricky playstyle, and that’s why they were my main.
