Kirby Star Allies, released in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch was a great game! The main mechanic of the game was Kirby being able to create and team up with allies. Enemies could be turned into allies, as well as friends and enemies from Kirby’s past. It was fun to get to team up with and play as iconic Kirby characters, and while every ally has their charm and use, I definitely have my favorites. Here’s my countdown of the top 10 allies I’d pick to journey through Dream Land.
10. Daroach
Coming in at number ten is the leader of the Squeak Squad! He has the coolness of a gang of thieves. His ice magic is handy for freezing enemies and he can summon the other members of the Squeak Squad to help.
9. Gooey
From Kirby’s Dreamland 3, this enigmatic, dark matter-adjacent friend is a blast to play as. His bouncy movements and unique visual design make him a standout. While he cannot copy enemy abilities like he could in Kirby’s Dreamland 3, those abilities are incorporated into his moveset perfectly.
8. Adeleine & Ribbon
Kirby’s friends from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards return! Adeleine is an artist who with her talents can bring powerful creations to life. Ribbon is a fairy who can fly and use crystal powers which adds another layer of offense.
7. Dark Meta Knight
The mysterious mirror world counterpart to Meta Knight from Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Dark Meta Knight brings a dark intensity to the group. He plays like Meta Knight, but with additional mirror based abilities. Plus, his design is undeniably cool.
6. Marx
From Kirby Super Star, is one of Kirby’s most iconic villains, so getting to see him as an ally is awesome. Getting to use his chaotic and powerful attacks previously used in his boss battle, from those vine whips to his black hole ability, are incredibly fun to unleash.
5. King Dedede
The king himself! Dedede’s powerful hammer strikes and ground pounds are always a welcome addition to any team. Beyond his strength, there’s a certain camaraderie with Dedede, especially after all the adventures we’ve been through with him.
4. Meta Knight
This masked swordsman is a fan favorite for a reason. His incredible speed, aerial prowess, and powerful sword techniques make him a formidable ally. He’s the epitome of cool and collected.
3. Susie
Susie started as an antagonist in Kirby: Planet Robobot, but returns as an ally. She uses advanced technology to fight, a laser blaster and powerful robotic armor. Pairing her robotic armor with different elements provides a lot of variety and are all a blast to play with.
2. Bandana Waddle Dee
The definitive player two for the Kirby franchise at this point. This little guy has proven time and time again that he’s more than just a cute face. His spear attacks are versatile, offering both range and close-quarters combat. There’s something so endearing about his determination and surprising strength.
1. Magolor
And finally, my number one ally. The antagonist of Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, this enigmatic little guy has one of the most compelling stories in the Kirby franchise. His abilities are incredibly diverse and powerful, from energy spheres to teleportation. He is one of the most powerful allies to have and playing as Magolor is a joy!
Each of these characters brings something unique and valuable to the team, making the journey through Dream Land and beyond even more fun and exciting.
