My top 10 bosses of Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Kirby and the Forgotten Land was Kirby’s first full foray into 3D and it was a seamless transition. The classic Kirby 2D gameplay that fans have enjoyed for decades was perfectly captured and in some ways elevated in 3D. The boss fights are of course a big part of the gameplay, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land delivered. The 3D movement and environment literally added a new dimension to the fights, and each fight was exciting.

It was tough to rank these, but here are my top 10 favorite bosses in the forgotten land.

10. Fecto Forgo

The “horror” element of Kirby games is a long-standing tradition, and Fecto Forgo delivers. This gelatinous, amalgam beast chasing you through a narrow corridor turns the game into a pulse-pounding escape sequence. It’s less of a traditional fight and more of a cinematic survival test.

9. Forgo Dedede

Just when you thought you knew what to expect from a Dedede fight, he goes full primal. Ditching the hammer for dual clubs and eventually scurrying around on all fours, this version of the King is relentless and chaotic. At the same time you know that Dedede is not himself, so the stakes of knocking him back to his senses adds another layer to the fight.

8. Fecto Elfilis

The final boss. This fight is a spectacle, featuring reality-warping rifts and spears of light. It’s a perfect test of every skill you’ve learned.

7. Leongar

Leongar feels like a huge threat. His swipes are massive, his roar is intimidating, and the arena feels too small for his size. It’s a fight that serves as a fantastic gateway to the game’s final act.

6. Meta Knight

It wouldn’t be a Kirby game without a duel against Meta Knight. Fighting Meta Knight in the colosseum is a fast-paced dance of swords and dodges.

5. Tropic Woods

It’s a tradition of Kirby games to have a boss fight against Whispy Woods or a variant of him. This game’s variant is a giant palm tree and is fittingly the boss of Everbay Coast, the second world.

4. King Dedede

The first fight against King Dedede in this game is truly great. It has the surprise factor of the reveal of Dedede being a member of the Beast Pack and the nostalgia of a classic Dedede fight going for it. Plus, the King is a real threat. When he picks up a giant stone pillar and starts swinging it around, the battle becomes intense.

3. Gorimondo

Gorimondo is a perfect first boss. He has an intimidating presence, but his attacks are telegraphed. The game builds up to the boss expertly, raising the tension, before Gorimondo catches Kirby by surprise.

2. Clawroline

Clawroline is probably the most stylish boss in the game. Her agility is unmatched, forcing you to track her as she scales the circus spotlights. It’s a high-energy fight that feels like a choreographed performance. It’s a great test for using the dodge.

1. Sillydillo

Taking the top spot is the junk-collecting Sillydillo. This fight has everything: a hilarious intro, a unique mechanic, and a terrifyingly fast rolling phase. Perfectly dodging his rapid rolls and dances until there is a chance to go on the offensive is incredibly satisfying. He may not be a universal threat like Fecto Elifilis or Morpho Knight, but he has the goofy charm that makes him fit in perfectly in the Kirby series.
